A large villa, several cars, fame and lots of money – the former Werder Bremen and Borussia Mönchengladbach soccer star actually had it all…

But what the public didn’t know at first was that the successful footballer led a double life as a footballer and alcoholic for years.

Numerous crashes, the loss of his family, a ruined career and a failed suicide attempt are the sad highlights from that time.
Thanks to good friends and his irrepressible will, Uli was able to successfully escape alcohol addiction in 2000 – after a tough detox programme and a stay in hospital.

For many years, the former professional footballer has been visiting youth centres, sports clubs, schools and families throughout Germany.

He helps children of addicted parents and parents of addicted children.

He speaks plainly, he opens the eyes of those affected and their families, and he is involved in addiction prevention at Champions League level!

His work is invaluable, which is why we are delighted that we were able to support his organisation in the past and will continue to do so in the future.
